FORD MUSTANG MACH-E WINTER WHEELS, WINTER TIRES AND WHEEL
WINTER WHEEL WEIGHT AND DRAINAGE HAVE A REAL BEARING ON THE RANGE OF THE CAR
The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with winter and summer wheels of varying dimensions, and as expected, the car’s range is published using the most lightweight wheels, driven under laboratory road conditions. As such, it’s important to choose the lightest possible winter wheels, as well as winter tires with the best possible water drainage to reduce the risk of aquaplaning on the front wheels when driving on wet roads. If you google wheel weight vs horsepower, you’ll see plenty of results showing articles describing how important wheel weight/rotary mass is for the energy consumption of both electric and standard cars. Click on the picture below to look through the articles (put aside a little extra time).
You needn’t be restricted to 18 inch winter wheels to obtain the best possible range and sports car rideability. We have 19 inch wheels of almost the same weight in our ZAX Wheels selection, a rim manufacturer specialised in lightweight electric car rims. Many highly recommended rims don’t have an “aero” design, as narrow spokes allow mud and dirt to gather on the inside of the rim which is hard to reach when cleaning. ZAX EV499, EV531 and EV631 are the most open rims, making them the easiest to clean. These rims also gather less dirt due to the slight turbulence inside the rim at motorway speeds. ZAX V5 is also an excellent, partially open rim, and the rims also boast a very lightweight rotary forged rim ring.
WE RECOMMEND USING WINTER TIRES WITH MAXIMUM WATER AND SLUSH DRAINAGE ON THE FORD MUSTANG MACH-E
The picture below demonstrates the difference between winter tires with and without drainage. In the Nordic countries, we start driving on wet and slushy roads as soon as the real Nordic winter starts. Unless all you want to do is ride around in a circle on a frozen lake in frigid temperatures, the winter tires we recommend are the solution to maintaining the best possible range for your car, as well as ensuring driver safety on Nordic motorways. The picture below shows the optimal winter tire for performance electric cars, the FRIGUS EV ICE 3. Details about the dimensions of the Mustang Mach-E will be released in the autumn of 2021, but we have some other excellent recommendations boasting treads and rubber of the same quality, as well as a five year guarantee that the tire tread compound will retain its softness. Click on the picture below to read more about the FRIGUS EV ICE 3. Until we replenish our stock of the FRIGUS, we have some other quality tires on offer that also provide excellent drainage, many with lamella treads and great grip in wet conditions which also come with a five year rubber quality guarantee.
